VI Model of the Year Final Walk

The final walk before announcing the winners of the 4th Annual VI Model of the Year competition, hosted by JG Management USVI. “About this show though. I plan to go to every competition after this. I might even go to Kidz Rock because those girls were working that stage. Hell, I might need to sign up and get me some coaching because I would love to strut like that. They were fierce. There were only two guys this year and one was serving natural hair. He had a high bun in a suit. A high bun. I can’t even put my hair in a damn bun right now. It was great.” –from Active in April

Active in April: What was I up to?

I learned this month that If I ever decided I wanted to be a socialite, or a celebrity then I would have my work cut out for me. I don’t know how they did it. A week of constantly having to look A-1 was draining. If you don’t know me by now, I’m a simple gal. I wear make-up here and there, and dress up now and again. For the most part, I’m simple to a T. Hell, if I can get away with a hoodie, jeans and a scarf on my head then that’s my attire. But earlier this month I wasn’t given that chance. Yall, I can’t walk in heels. I can fake it till I make it in doses, but I am not runway model material. Thank the lord …

The importance of Self-love

How many times have you seen a post on this topic? I’m guessing, a lot, but that’s good because it’s something that needs to be repeated. (This post is for women, so if you’re a man reading this and get upset at the bottom, sorry not sorry). Dear ladies, we live in a world full of impossible, unhealthy beauty standards, and judgey-ass folks that read one issue of Fashion magazine while eating a croissant and suddenly they know how you’re suppose look, walk, and talk. Where your face needs to be beat to the gods or look natural (via makeup but not too much makeup, just enough makeup to make it look like you’re not wearing makeup), but not completely natural because in this world you have to look like you but not too much like you. Got it? Where your hair has to be natural, but only if it looks a specific kind of natural–else you gotta comb it..even though it is–or you need to have a bomb ass weave because anything less than …

A Feral Affair Chapter 20

Feral Affair Chapter 20

Sehjada jumped from her mattress, her hair wild and damp like her bedsheets from her sweat. She palmed her face, breathing erratically. From the space between her fingers she could see the image of Marissa. Her best friend’s bloody face stared back at her with dead eyes and she screamed. She swung her hand at her sheets then swung her feet off the bed, tripping over her slippers as she tried to escape. At the last minute, she managed to grab onto her dresser before she could hit the thing. Then, she collapsed on the floor. Her body shook and she wrapped her arms around herself. Every night for the past two months she went through this. The guilt of aiding in the death of her best friend had consumed her. She had no idea how to stop it either. She was sure she would have been fine. Marissa was a monster. She had to die. They all had to die. “Why won’t you leave me alone?”  She held her head with both hands and …
